Product description Heating Microscope
The thermo-optical solution for analysis of softening and melting properties of materials!
The EM301 heating microscope from Hesse Instruments is a laboratory measuring instrument for the thermo-optical analysis of materials. Its special design, non-contact measurement method and comprehensive EMI III heating microscope software make it suitable for a wide range of applications. In addition, these heating microscopes are the only system in the world that offers compatibility with older Leitz/Leica heating microscopes.
The EMI III software automatically analyzes silhouettes of the sample and determines geometric parameters and characteristic temperatures. The design of the measuring cell makes it possible to heat materials to temperatures above their melting point. The EM301 is therefore suitable for the determination of: • Sintering properties • Softening properties • Melting properties • Thermal expansion properties • Wetting properties
All components of the heating microscope are placed on an optical bench: this reliably ensures exact alignment of the lamp, oven and camera, which is essential for accurate image analysis. Once set, an optimal sample position remains stable, but can be easily changed to a new position by the user when needed. Since each silhouette in the direct beam path is analyzed, no complicated optical components need to be used. Therefore, the entire system is robust and easy to maintain.
An important feature for an accurate and representative measurement of the sample temperature is the arrangement of the thermocouple. In the Hesse Instruments heating microscope, this thermocouple is located directly below the sample in the sample holder. The closed construction of the sample holder ensures optimal threefold protection of the thermocouple: against mechanical damage, influences from the furnace atmosphere and above all against contamination by the sample itself. In the long run, this construction minimizes errors when measuring the temperatures of samples and thus when measuring their characteristic points.
Another distinguishing element of the heating microscope is the sample holder, which is moved on rails which are firmly attached to the furnace support. This unique design allows you to place a sample on the holder outside the (hot) furnace and then move the sample on the holder consistently and accurately to the measurement position in the furnace. At the same time, the oven is closed. As a result, this ingenious design makes sample handling exceptionally easy.
EMI III Software
The steps in the EMI III software are based on typical laboratory operations, which means that the software can be used easily and intuitively. Routine applications run quickly and securely. Once the test object is prepared and placed in the oven with substrate on the sample holder, EMI III guides all further steps with the heating microscope, such as sample setup, measurement, evaluation and data processing.
A user with administrator rights can manage users and methods, change program settings and it is even possible to add a company logo for the test reports. For special applications, parameters of the image analysis can be changed so that the image analysis can be made more sensitive, for example for contact angle measurements, or less sensitive for easier comparison of new results with data obtained with older software versions like EMI 2.x.
When a measurement is started, information about the progress of the measurement is displayed on the screen: in table form, graph and of course images of the test object in real time. During a measurement in progress, most functions of the software are blocked, as the measurement must be completed without interruption.
