The Melt Flow Rate or MFR for short is the flow rate of a thermoplastic at a prescribed temperature and amount of sample through a capillary. Based on this information, different types of material can be distinguished and it can be determined whether a material is degraded or not. When a material is degraded, this often results in a higher flow. Determining the MFR is a test method that is widely used for inspection of the incoming material and for monitoring production processes.
The Melt Flow Indexer van KARG type MeltFloW Basic is een standalone unit en is ontworpen voor het bepalen van de MFR in gram per 10 minuten volgens de DIN EN ISO 1133, ASTM D 1238, en BS 2782 methode A. De MFR waarde (Melt Mass Flow Rate) volgens methode A wordt berekend m.b.v. een nauwkeurige balans.
The Melt Flow Indexer model MeltFloW Basic bestaat uit de volgende onderdelen:
- Control unit
- Standard press mold with standard cylinder
- Cleaning tool for press and cylinder
Depending on the material to be tested, there is a wide range of standard weights, between 1000 and 5000 grams. The available standard weights are 1000, 1050, 1200, 2160, 3800 and 5000 grams, which can be combined if desired, creating a maximum mass of 21.6 kilograms. Additional weights are available in 1600 and 2500 grams.

Naast de MeltFloW Basic is er ook nog een Plus uitvoering beschikbaar. De MeltFloW Basic Plus beschikt over een gemotoriseerd snijmes met timerfunctie, waardoor niet met een externe timer geklokt hoeft te worden of het product handmatig af te steken.
